By Creativity Coach
Book Chick asked:

what inspires you? music? movies? stories?

I’m writing a story and I have lost my creativity and inspiration.

Music and My Friends. I think that these to things inspire me because they are my favorite two things and I can’t live without them. Whenever I have writers block I always listen to music or I think about my friends and some of the things they would do.

    Two things:

    1. Surrounding myself with creative people. I have several friends with a passion for the arts, and I’ve discovered that spending time with them (even if we aren’t discussing writing or anything artistic per se) helps me get back on track.

    2. Hard work! Keep writing, keep pressing on even if the work is less than inspired. I’ve found creativity to be a muse that would rather be sought after than to luck onto your shoulder. Encourage her by calling her – eventually she’ll look over and your writing will be blessed!

Music can inspire you, but can also distract you. To write and concentrate you might pick music that is just background stuff and not loud.

What most inspires me is just the environment (my surroundings and daily experiences) those can be volumes of inspiration in a very real sense.

In your case, you might just want to back away from whatever it is that you are writing and either start something else, or do something else while maybe making mental notes that take you back to the story. It’s not so much different than being an accountant working on numbers 8 hours a day, taking breaks to divert the attention.
