How to inspire uninspired students?
ByI live and teach the native language (my native language) in a country whose students are simply uninspired. The society in general looks down upon music, does not apprehend art and creativity. They are spoiled by the riches of the country, and yes this is in the Middle East.
I am thinking of ways to inspire students to better their own mother tongue, through music and art. My question is, how do you introduce music and art to a mind that has never felt its joys? Never valued its beauty and potential?
I once showed them a picture of a sculpture, and asked them to describe it (in their proper native language). Only a couple of people showed interest. You can feel it under the breath of the class that they couldn’t care less. How to combat that? It will be even worse with a musical interpretation exercise, because some people in my country forbid music altogether.

Take them to see some homeless people. That will inspire them. It would me. Maybe they will want to learn something then.
Bring Out Your Creativity
Perhaps you could show and explain how other cultures enjoy art and music.

That’s always difficult especially with that age group but you have to put them in a familiar/comfortable atmosphere.
Figure out what they enjoy. You say the area has banned/is against anything art and music and that makes it hard because that is what students/children are interested in the most.
I know things can be strict there so it can be hard and a bit different.
I don’t think they will be interested in a sculpture.
Maybe you can have them write something they enjoy and share it. Or, get them into small groups and write a story together. They can use their own life past or whatever interests them.
This will teach them communication skills and creative writing.
I am not in doubt that you are in the Middle East. You said it like we should be surprised. Trust me, I am well aware of how much money is there and how much opportunity.
Nonetheless, get the children surrounded by whatever is of interest to them.
I highly…..HIGHLY doubt that your country forbids music. They just forbid WESTERN/US music. But music that is related to your culture/religion is fine I’m sure.
